Covering Bjork
When it comes to covering music, most musicians like to chose a song that they can bring new life/point of view/sound to because singing it straight always lends to comparison to the original artist. Sure, we have plenty of lazy artists who do just that but there have been some really great re-imagining of songs (Lily Allen’s Womanizer anyone?) Well, this is not that case. At the Polar Prize Music Ceremony, a few artist decided to tackle Bjork. That’s like a blind man saying, “Hey I think I can paint a Picasso. Sounds easy.” No. Bjork’s music is not only (slightly) insane but ethereal as her voice is otherworldly. You don’t do Bjork straight as a cover, you do Bjork safe because her one voice is anything BUT. Well, the results are surprising. One girl killed it, the other girl meh’d it and the third they didnt bother put on Youtube because it was so boring. What do you think?
But none compare to Radiohead doing their own homage to the queen of bizarre.
